Brewer Community GT Music Students participated in two workshops at UMaine, April 28th. Graduate students from the Intermedia department took students through their interactive exhibit on the Syrian refugee crisis. BCS students wrote cards of encouragement to refugees and placed them under shoes that will go to the Turkish embassy and to a refugee camp.
UMaine Music Education majors interacted with BCS students performing improvisational compositions on various instruments and sounds.
On March 19, the Brewer Community School Jazz Band dazzled the adjudicators and audience at the MMEA State Middle School Jazz Festival at Nokomis HS, receiving a gold award and first place in the State for Division 2! In addition, for her outstanding work on trumpet and flugelhorn, seventh grader Hanna S. (Shown below) was awarded one of 5 individual outstanding musicianship trophies. Soloists Matt M. on trombone, Zoe V. on tenor sax and bass, Hanna S. on trumpet and flugelhorn and Adrienne F. on trumpet received outstanding musicianship certificates for their solos.

Mrs. MacInnes’ 3rd grade class won a national writing contest with their story, Classroom Pets. In addition to winning almost $1,000 in books and writing programs for the classroom, the story was also made into a video. It is narrated by storyteller, Mrs. P. Mrs. P. is actress Kathleen Kinney most remembered for her role as Mimi on The Drew Carey Show. Mrs. MacInnes’ students would like to share their story with the Brewer community and hope that it receives a lot of hits on Youtube!
Pre-kindergarten and kindergarten registration will take place at Brewer Community School, 92 Pendleton Street, on March 4th from 8 am to 4 pm.
Pre-k is a half day program. The morning session runs from 8 to 11:30 am and the afternoon session runs from 11:30 to 3 pm.
Students should be four years old on or before October 15, 2016.
Kindergarten is for students who are five years old on or before October 15, 2016. If your child attended and completed pre-k at Brewer Community School, they do not need to be registered again for kindergarten.
The following items should be brought with you at the time of registration: Your child’s original birth certificate, immunization record and 2 documents showing proof of residency in Brewer.
Children should not accompany their parents at this time. Orientation/screening will occur at a later date.
